Sony Announces 160GB PS3 Bundle And Wireless Keypad
Published by Chris | Filed under Gadgets & Tech | August 20th, 2008
Sony is continuing on its quest to make its PS3 console the top-selling video game console in the world. It has a long way to go with Nintendo’s Wii thoroughly trouncing both the PS3 and Xbox 360 in sales.
In July, the Nintendo Wii outsold both the Sony PS3 and Microsoft Xbox 360 in America. Nintendo sold 666,000 Wii consoles compared to 405,500 PS3’s and 219,800 Xbox 360s. That was a marked increase in PS3 sales compared to May 2008 when the best the PS3 could do was tie the Xbox 360.
In an effort to increase sales, Sony has tried several tactics with its PS3 console from slashing prices to offering limited edition PS3 bundles. In July, Sony announced that it would be pricing the 80GB PS3 bundle at $399 and discontinuing the 40GB PS3 that had previously occupied $399 price point.

Who Needs the iPhone–The iPod Touch is Good Enough
Published by Chris | Filed under Gadgets & Tech, iPod | August 17th, 2008
$1,320! That’s the cost of an original iPhone and one year of the cheapest plan. These days, the trend-setting phone costs even more money over its life and it’s more than a little restrictive and even a bit buggy. It’s a slimmer iPhone with almost all its features, it requires no contract, and when you can’t get a Wi-Fi signal, your plain, humble cell phone can step up to take its place. Here’s why anyone considering the iPhone should opt for the iPod touch—instead.
While you won’t get every single one of the iPhone’s capabilities when you opt for an iPod touch, you’ll save a lot of money. Buying an iPod touch costs you $300 for unlimited use, not a guaranteed commitment of more than $1,600 over two years that the iPhone involves (more, if you have to pay a penalty to get out of your current cell phone contract). Here’s how I use my plain old flip phone for calls and getting info in Wi-Fi less areas, and the iPod touch for everything else.Photo by sarchi.
Did you buy an iPod touch for similar reasons? Is always-on, full-web access the real reason you bought your iPhone? Do you not really see the need for either? Let’s hear it in the comments.
